Se hela listan på plato.stanford.edu As a branch of evolutionary biology, sociobiological theory aims to use demographic parameters (e.g., growth and mortality rates, gender and age distributions) and the genetic structure of populations to predict patterns of social organization across species. Sociobiology explores the hypothesis that such whole-society traits are emergent, adaptive outcomes of Darwinian evolution. While gene selection illuminates much animal behavior, human sociality depends crucially on the cycle of gene–culture coevolution. So are the sociobiological theories on the alleged genetic roots of all social traits, from the incest taboo to social stratification to ideals of human beauty.
